Ian’s first book Mrs Wrelton’s Dinosaur was published in 2003 and featured on BBC TV and Radio. Alien Teeth was listed on The School Library Association’s Books into Boys scheme in 2007.
Since then Ian has written more than thirty books for schools for publishers including Badger Learning, OUP’s Project X series, Rising Stars and Eprint. He specialises in easy-to-read stories for reluctant readers (boys!) along with a number of teachers’ resource books.
Ian left school at 17 and worked in the printing industry before training for teaching. After teaching in three counties he settled with his family in Kent, becoming deputy- headteacher in a large primary school where he began writing.
NOW… he spends much of his time visiting schools, inspiring young writers in the classroom.
The children really enjoyed the day… there was something for everyone. The children were all talking about books and stories… and Spike the dinosaur was being talked about for the rest of the day!
(We enjoyed) EVERYTHING. Seeing children who are normally afraid or reluctant to write beaming with confidence was wonderful to see!
Spike is the green dinosaur in Mrs Wrelton’s Dinosaur. He goes to all Ian’s author visits.
Here he is enjoying a book with a small friend during a busy day looking after his author.
Mrs Wrelton’s Dinosaur was Ian’s first published book. Its launch featured on BBC South East News and BBC Radio Kent.
